Kjell Paulsen

Kjell Paulsen (b.1967) is a norwegian music and culture journalist, lyricist, tv writer, tv director, media teacher and occasional vocalist. Paulsen recorded a number of unreleased demos with Lars Gudmestad of the group Stålmenn during the 1990’s. He was also the vocalist of the shortlived sixties inspired band The Roundabouts in 1991/92 (no official releases). Paulsen has worked as a music- and culture journalist in Norway's third largest national newspaper Dagbladet and for the TV shows «U:Musikk» and «M» for Norways biggest broadcaster NRK. He has been a writer for the NRK humor shows «Direkte Lykke», which had Kåre and The Cavemen / Euroboys as a house band, and «Bombay Surpise» where he co-wrote scripts with Thomas Seltzer of Turbonegro. Together with Espen Torkildsen Kjell Paulsen wrote, directed and acted in the spoof documentary about the fictional boyband O’boylife also for NRK. O’boylife released one single «Every Time You Kiss Me (I’ll Be There)», with lyrics by Paulsen, that sold around 100 copies. During the 1990s Paulsen directed several successful music videos parodies of current pop hits ("Teenage Dirtbag", *Because I Got High", "Caught In The Middle", "Something Stupid" and others) for the show "Reser" on NRK. He was also nominated to the Norwegian "Emmy" Gullruten for a documentary about Bosnian teenage refugees in Norway. In 2015 Paulsen was contacted by the Norwegian critically acclaimed artist Finn Coren to write a short biography / press release for Coren’s new album «På Jorden Et Sted». Paulsen has also made minor contributions to the books «Japan: A Foreign Affair», a biography about the band Japan, written by Anthony Reynolds of the band Jack and «David Bowie World 7" Discography 1964 -1981» by Marshall Jarman and Reto Stöcklin. He is also the administrator of the Facebook groups «The David Bowie Appreciation Society, Norway» and «Kraftwerk. Norwegen». Paulsen lives in Holmestrand an hour outside Oslo with his wife and two children and is currently working as a media teacher at the Horten Videregående School.
