American straight edge band from Los Angeles, California. Active in the late 1980s. X-pression was a band from Boyle Heights, California which functioned for less than a year after its formation in 1989 by Strength In Numbers (East Los Angeles band featured in 2016's "Los Punks: We Are All We Have" documentary) drummer James/Jaime who took on vocals. Informed by James' earlier attendance of mid-eighties positive hardcore/straight edge shows (e.g. Insted, Uniform Choice, Half-Off etc.) through out Los Angeles, X-pression did not have an audience outside of their local backyard shows but managed to record a demo tape at the John Anson Ford Theater due to drummer Aldo Gonzalez' weekend employment there. The band broke up shortly before receiving a 7 inch single offer from Paris, France indie label Crab Song Records. In 1991, James returned to drums and partnered with former 1980's ELA thrash metal Necrophagia guitarist Jerry Battle to form Closedown, a band cited in the All Music Guide as "one of the first and best American responses to U.K. shoegazing bands." Closedown recorded one album "Nearfield" and appeared on various compilations that included Timothy Leary, Cocteau Twins, Psychic T.V., His Name is Alive, Mayhem, Emperor and Opeth. Drummer Aldo Gonzalez (https://m.imdb.com/name/nm1989533/ ) earned success as an actor which included a recurring role in sitcom "Anger Management" besides various movie roles.
