Milton C. Anderson

Milton C. Anderson founded The Young Americans in 1962. The group is credited with being the first show choir in America, mixing choreography with choral singing. Born in Rockford, Illinois, Anderson attended the University of Iowa and received his undergraduate degree in choral music and education from the University of Cincinnati. He then moved to California for graduate work at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received his master’s in music composition, becoming a musical director for CBS Television in Hollywood. He worked as a music director on shows such as “Playhouse 90,” “Rawhide” and “The Twilight Zone.” Anderson died on July 4, 2017, at the age of 90.
