Bernard Vitebsky was born in London of Russian parents on 8th January 1924 and died in Cambridge on 4th June 2007. Educated at university College School, London, University College of Wales, and King's College, Cambridge, he decided at the completion of his academic studies to make music his career. In the past three years he has appeared in every major city and music centre in the British Isles, and has played with most of symphony orchestras under leading conductors. He has become noted for his fine playing of Romantic school, particularly of Chopin and Schumann. As an exponent of Chopin he is represented in the Concert Artist Catalogue by several masterly performances including the 52 Mazurkas in the 'Masterworks' series ; of special interest to Chopin lovers will be his performance of the Funeral March Op.72 and the Fugue, both works receiving their first recordings on MPO 5008.
