American actor, vaudevillian, speaker, and singer. Brother of actress Virginia Sale. Born: August 25, 1885 in Huron, South Dakota Died: November 7, 1936 (age 51) in Los Angeles, California. He appeared on Broadway from 1902-30 and appeared in a handful of silent films, spent the majority of his career treading the boards of vaudeville as a comedian, usually in the persona of "Lem Putt," a carpenter from Urbana, Illinois who specialized in the building of outhouses. He got alot of mileage out of it--besides the routine, he also co-wrote a book and a song called "(I'm) The Specialist" (co-wrote with Nels Bitterman).
