Jake Wilkinson's Unicycle, stylized as JWU (pronounced Jay WOO) is a studio band specializing in a broad number of genres. Some time in the 80’s a strange alien laid its eggs in young Jon James (aka AV Bear)’s brain. That alien is Weird Al Yankovic. Being involved in several bands throughout the 80’s and 90’s, AV Bear’s love of music was ignited and later he began to build Shedd Studio in his backyard. One time, after being inspired by Joe Funk’s inability to remember a staff worker’s name, Jon wrote My Name is Joe. He submitted it to Grand Junction’s local music compilation “Out & About” under the moniker “Jake Wilkinson’s Unicycle” after Canyon View Vineyard Church’s middle school pastor Jake Wilkinson who always kept a unicycle on hand. After having an office near Charity Daisy Mae Bodeen he began to invite her and her husband, Brian Skeeter Bodeen to participate in a project to make fun of co-worker Harmony Ward. These recording sessions became pregnant with, and through C-section gave birth to JWU’s first CD “Harmony Ward’s Comet of Doom”. Harmony was so enthralled with the great omage to her that she forced herself to become the bands muse and musical prognosticator. Some time around its release, Yosh began to work in the same office and was invited to found the band too. Somewhere along the line Jeff Vader got roped into all this mess. After several painful months and bouts with typhoid fever and rabies, the band recorded “The Most Awesomest Band”. Their 3rd studio album “Hits From the Future” was born summer of 2008 and due to its size, had complications. During this time Featuring Enchilada McKenzie joined the band. -Yosh 6-28-07 (revised 7-21-08) PS This is an unauthorized biography. Events and characters portrayed are entirely coincidental. Continuing the history (9-9-14) After recording Hits From the Future, the band members grew old and burned out. Some of them went to rehab for chemical addictions to Skittles and/or Big Macs. Yosh and Harmony each suffered traumatic debilitating car wrecks. Brian and Charity moved to a far away land. Enchilada McKenzie became a cop (or something like that). Jeff became imbibed in deep legal jargon. It was time for a Greatest Hits album released several months after HFTF. With the success of that release JWU was once again interested in music. They sold the rights to JWU OCD Hand-soap and used the money to record their long awaited "The Great Cover Up" released in the throes of 2011. Though time and distance have struggled to tear JWU apart, they survive today - mainly on the coffee that Harmony brought and the newest member Micheal "Sean Penn" Courtney. At the time of this writing there are plans for a JWU Movy, an album of "Lost Tracks" and hopefully a completely new studio release!! I'm so excited I could barely pee!
