Alfred Hepworth

Born York, Yorkshire 1905. Died Hammersmith, London 1987. Began his singing career as a boy chorister at York Minster. Moved to London in the 1930s to join the choir at St. Pauls cathedral. After the war he spent most of his time touring and recording including the proms. He then went to Westminster Abbey until his official retirement. He then sang at St Columba's church of Scotland in Knightsbridge. In his 70s he learned Hebrew and became a cantor at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in St. Johns Wood, London - a role he continued until shortly before his death.
