At the age of 18 he named himself Midas (after Midas Wolf from Donald Duck). The well-known children's book writer wrote more than fifty children's and youth books, most of which contain stories. In his non-fictional children's books, Dekkers writes about biology-related topics. Dekkers also writes fictional prose for adults. As a biologist, Dekkers is known for his sharp observations. He knows how to explain biological-scientific themes with a sense of humor. Thanks to his writing style, his books have many reprints. Dekkers is also known for his often contradictory and controversial opinions on topics such as bestiality, having children and exercising.
