Russian ethnic singer, performer, folklorist, storyteller, collector, arranger, translator. Alexander Matochkin was born on February 20, 1978, in Severomorsk, Murmansk region, USSR. In 1995, he moved to Saint Petersburg. Since 1996, he has been studying at the faculty of history of St. Petersburg state University, at the Department of archaeology until 2000. In 2000, he transferred to the faculty of Philology. In 2005, he graduated from the Department of mathematical linguistics with a bachelor's degree. In 2007, he completed his master's degree at the Department of history of Russian literature, and wrote his master's thesis on epics. He also studied at the postgraduate school of folklore studies (2007-2010), where he also studied bylines. He participated in expeditions: the archaeological expedition of the State Hermitage Museum in Smolensk and the Pskov region (1996-1999), was engaged in excavations of late stone and iron ages, was engaged in ceramics, there began to collect oral folk literature; folklore-ethnographic expedition of the folklore Cabinet of the philological faculty of St. Petersburg state University, Vologda (2002, 2006), the Mezen (2008, 2009), Leshukonye and Pechora (2010); independent folklore expedition to Vologda, Pechora, Pskov (2014-2016). In 1998, Alexander joined the St. Petersburg state University folk ensemble.
