Sunday Kids
Настоящее имя: Sunday Kids
Об исполнителе:
The members of Sunday Kids can’t exactly be called kids anymore, as the Amsterdam based foursome is amply adorned with beards, tattoos and chest hair. Exactly what one would expect from a band that is inspired by American sixties and seventies rock tradition, but has also been influenced by the swampy blues rock produced by the likes of The Black Keys, Kings of Leon and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Raw, soulful music, played by men in lumberjack shirts, with callused fingers and sweat on their brow. No horsing around… Let’s make some music! That’s how men roll in the northern parts of Holland, where the roots of their friendship grew, years before forming Sunday Kids in Amsterdam. “Amsterdam rock band to watch!” – Indierockcafe.com The four friends are no strangers to the beauty of jumping in a van and rocking the shit out of a venue whilst quenching their thirst with a good amount of beer. As a matter of fact, this has been their weekly routine since their inception in 2013. They have achieved a great deal in those two years: A tour through England, playing the infamous Camden Barfly in London, their music placed in an Ajax commercial, support slots for Lucinda Williams (Paradiso), Beth Hart (HMH), one of the most booked bands in Popronde 2014, a musical appearance in the prime time TV show ‘De Wereld Draait Door’ and playing over 50 headline shows. And let’s not forget the release of their debut album ‘Twang Wolf Sessions’ which came out in 2013. It got great reviews; common denominator in the praise being the way Sunday Kids have put their own spin on Americana genres such as blues, country, surf and rock. According to MusicFromNL: “Twang Wolf Sessions is a roots record as it ought to be… raw, bluesy with a dash of country. But first and foremost straight up and direct. Sunday Kids may well hail from Amsterdam but they wear their ‘country roots’ on their sleeves with a swaggering self belief that is simply infectious!” With the release of their second album ‘Sweet One’, due in October 2015, they have raised the bar creatively and professionally. The laid back attitude is gone, without losing any of the joy. The boys of the debut album have grown into men, each knowing what they want and not easily satisfied. The ten songs on ‘Sweet One’ have been scrutinized and honed many times before satisfaction allowed them to be etched onto vinyl. Producers Mischa den Haring (T-99’s) and Hans Hanneman have made the record sound smarter, more developed and more varied, with a sound ranging from psychedelic all the way to garage and surf. The songs have become more compact, with riffs serving the song instead of the other way around. And all of this whilst staying true to their roots. The release of ‘Sweet One’ is a great reason to get back on the Dutch club and festival circuit. But there’s more; beer brewery Grolsch heard the songs and used ‘Along the Way’ as a theme song in their new commercial for Kornuit, featuring the Sunday Kids. With ‘Sweet One’, Sunday Kids aim their arrows too on neighboring countries Belgium, Germany, the UK and who knows where else in Europe. With the support of Suburban, the future is looking bloody peachy for these guys. “Outgrowing The Netherlands, Sunday Kids open the gates of doom. Just the way we like it”. – Planet Trash
