Harold Blair AM (b. Cherbourg Reserve, Qld. 13 September 1924 – d. East Melbourne, Vic. 21 May 1976) was an Australian tenor and Aboriginal activist. Self-taught by imitating singers on gramophone records. He was encouraged by Marjorie Lawrence to take up singing professionally and in march 1945 he won Australia's Amateur Hour. Studied at Melbourne's Melba Conservatorium, from which he gained a Diploma in Music in 1949. Went to the U.S. for further study with Todd Duncan, and gave a concert at New York Town Hall in March 1951. Returned to Australia for a tour with the A.B.C. and began teaching in Melbourne. Went to Europe in 1959. In 1967 was a music teacher with the Victorian Education Dept., and continued to give concerts. Awarded AM in 1975.Harold's biography was written in 1975 by Kenneth Harrison and called "Dark Man White World".
