Born August 14, 1937 in Pasco, Washington. Music teacher in Davenport and Richland, Washington before moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 1973. Started on piano at age 4 and at age 15 earned scholarship to University of Washington, graduating in 1960 from East Washington State University. Influenced by Oscar Peterson, beginning at age 12. With his imaginative piano playing and encyclopedic knowledge of jazz standards, Armand Boatman has been active on the Phoenix jazz scene since the early-'80s. In addition to leading his own group, the Armand Boatman Trio, Boatman continues to collaborate with top-notch Phoenix jazz players Warren Jones, and brothers Bill and Dom Maio, in the Phoenix Jazz Quartet, and often works with vocalist Margot Reed. Boatman continues to hold court at the Famous Door, in Scottsdale, where he hosts Tuesday-night jam sessions.
