Михаил Ангелов

Mikhail Angelov (1932 - 2017). In 1956 he graduated from the State Music Academy in Sofia, in the master class for composition and conductorship. Between 1957 and 1959 he was a permanent conductor of the Bulgarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Subsequently he did a two - year specialization in the Moscow Conservatory (opera & symphony music postgraduate course) with brilliant success. Between 1961 and 1991 he was successively a conductor, chef conductor and director of the The Sofia National Opera Orchestra. During that period he realized over 30 opera stage productions, many for the firs time in Bulgaria. Mikhail Angelov was a professor in opera interpretation at the Bulgarian National Music Academy and a conductor at the Opera Studio of professor Hristo Brambarov. At that time he coached the preparation of almost all young Bulgarian opera singers for their participations in international opera contests, festivals and vorsingen meetings. One of his well-known students is Ghena Dimitrova. Maestro Angelov enjoys a high recognition both as an opera conductor and a pedagogue - a combination which is not easy to achieve today. Mastering the basic principles of the vocal technique, his work with the singers has always aimed at the complex development of the vocal image in conjunction with the musical and artistic requirements of the opera character. Mikhail Angelov has conducted opera performances in the Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow), the Prague State Opera Orchestra. Since 1970 Maestro Angelov is a cheif artistic director of the Danube Sounds Choir.
