Danish organist, harpsichordist, composer, arranger, musicologist and music teacher. Known for his authentic interpretations of organ music, informed by his musicological and artistic studies. Born August 15th, 1906 in Fuglebjerg, Zealand, Denmark. Died March 13th, 1987 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Following his completion of the Organists' examination in 1926, he served as organist and cantor in several churches in and around Copenhagen: Reformert Kirke, Copenhagen, 1928-1941 Jægersborg Kirke, Jægersborg, 1942-1947 Trinitatis Kirke, Copenhagen, 1947-1971 and Sankt Andreas Kirke, Copenhagen, 1971-1977 After his M.A. in musicology in 1929, he taught harmony and figured bass at the University of Copenhagen, where he also lectured on organ and harpsichord music from 1949. In 1959-1960, he was Visiting Professor of Organ and Acting University Organist at Yale University, and in 1967-1968 the Visiting Professor of Organ at North Texas State University. In 1964 he was conferred a Doctor's Degree of Divinity by the Swedish Academy of Åbo, Finland. He also taught organ at the Royal Danish Conservatory.
