Marvin Newman was a versatile and acclaimed photographer who captured the essence of people, places and events with his artistic vision. He had a long and diverse career that spanned from street photography to sports journalism, from social documentary to commercial work. He was influenced by his education at the Photo League, the Institute of Design and Brooklyn College, where he studied with masters like Berenice Abbott, Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind. He worked for magazines such as Sports Illustrated, Life, Look and Newsweek, as well as for Time-Life Books and advertising agencies1. He published several books of his photographs, including “The Color of Sweden”, “Africa’s Animals”, “Yankee Colors” and “The Classic Mantle”.
