Austin, Texas drummer, booking agent, producer and actor who grew up in Lubbock, Texas. McFarland was born on November 15, 1946 and died in Austin on September 1, 2005, age 58. McFarland started the band The Twilights with Joe Ely in Lubbock when the two were in their teens. He moved to Austin, Texas in the mid-1960s and became part of the local music scene for over 30 years, which included playing drums at both the opening night of the venue Armadillo World Headquarters in 1970 and on its closing night in 1980. He opened the booking/management company Austex Music and the label Austex Records. McFarland worked with musicians including Joe Ely, The Hub City Movers, High Cotton Express, Jessie Taylor, Keith Ferguson, Angela Strehli, Stevie Ray Vaughn, RC Banks, John X. Reed, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Janet Lynn, Brent Wilson, Butch Hancock, The Texana Dames, DK Little, Kimmie Rhodes, Wayne Hancock, Ray Benson, Don Walser, and Alvin Crow.
