The Baragwanath Choir

Choir of the Baragwanath Hospital - a very large provincial hospital situated in Soweto (South Western Township), Johannesburg, South Africa. The hospital was originally built by Great Britain for the convalescence of British Commonwealth soldiers wounded in WWII in 1942. Originally named The Imperial Military Hospital, Baragwanath, but renamed Baragwanath Hospital in 1948 when it was bought by the South African government and became a hospital for Black patients. The hospital was again re - named the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in 1997, after the South African Communist Party leader who was assassinated in 1993. It is the largest hospital in Africa with nearly 7000 staff members and more than two thousand patients check into the hospital's specialised clinics and out-patient departments daily.
