From Quebec, Canada, Monopode released their only album in 1995. The band were composed of 5 members - 4 of them students at Laval University. The album was progressive with acoustic parts and the vocals are in French. Here is a press release from 1995 describing an upcoming live performance Laval University: Marrying theatricality, musical performances and pictorial texts, the young band from Québec relies on the originality of this show to stand out on the progressive Quebec scene. Entitled Monopode ... the legend, the show traces the arrival of Jacques Cartier on the banks of the continent and his many conversations with the Indian chief Donnaconna. According to the group singer Éric Fortin, Monopode is the title of a forgotten legend that tells the thrilling adventures of a creature with a foot supposedly perceived by Cartier during his walks in the forest. "When we chose this name, we were far from suspecting that one day, a symbolic concept would be grafted around a show," says the singer. The big jump This time it's the big jump, Monopode is ready for his concept show. The band offers a progressive music accompanied by colorful texts and a conceptual performance rallying costumes, sets and the game of "musicomédiens". Moreover, Éric Fortin, the project's promoter, notes that the musical style borrowed by the band lends itself well to this kind of staging: "Progressive music has always been perceived by amateurs as being very rich in symbols. As a result, our music is sought after, accessible and very stimulating, "says the microbiology student at Université Laval. To achieve his project, Eric Fortin can boast of having appealed to more than 25 students from various disciplines and to have gathered them for the cause. He also admitted that without the Sociocultural Activities Department (SASC) of Laval University, "the project would not be where it is now".
