Electronic-punk-noise band from Atlanta, GA. Experimental musical project began by Paul Harper during a difficult transitional period when he was moving out of a house that he had lived in with former musical collaborator Bradford Cox (as well as Lockett Pundt and Colin Mee) that also included members David Spence and John Hannah in the most well known line-up as a three piece. Largely gaining local momentum after a few performances at Kirkwood Ballers Club in which Harper and (fellow founding member of Deerhunter) Daniel Walton performed highly altered covers of songs such as OMD's The New Stone Age and improvisational instrumental pieces, Tightbros/KBC associate John Hannah (requesting to fill a vacancy for a drummer and then switching to mainly screamed vocals) and Paul's neighbor David Spence (playing keyboards and various electronics) solidified a somewhat stable lineup that held together for roughly a year and made a couple of releases that received some decent local press. John Hannah was then asked to leave the band after the lineup began expanding and he refused to cooperate with (and attempted to oust) principal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Harper. Harper then attempted to carry on the Facehugger project with dwindling interest in the newer line-ups, and some of the members went on to form other bands in Atlanta, with some of those bands blatantly lifting material (Chandu's/Spence and Spangler) and taking full credit (Hannah) for Facehugger's song catalog and existence. Harper then essentially put the Facehugger project and name to rest after a few arbitrary attempts to sell remaining recordings from various lineups. Contributors to the live band as well as recording and writing sessions included Dan Walton, Annie Alder, Jaye Marie Spangler, Bradley Bailey, Dan Wakefield, and a few others in the project's short but active life. Containing some elements of improvisation, most musical pieces were largely based on chord progressions from songs written by Harper when he was a tween that was obsessed with the film Alien, thus the clever moniker for the group. Releases were largely done under the supervision of John Hannah in order to focus more on polished songs for public consumption. Lyrics on these releases were written and performed by Hannah. Music was almost entirely written and arranged by Harper with some assistance from Spence and Hannah. Some drum overdubs were added in post production against the wishes and without the participation of Harper.
