Benson Sr., founded the John T. Benson Publishing Co. in 1902. Upon his father’s death in the early 1930s, John T. Benson Jr. took over the management of the music publishing company and was also a partner with his brothers in a family printing business. His great love for the church and his dedication to the ministry of sacred music in the lives of people caused him to leave the printing business and devote full time to music publishing. For twenty years prior to his retirement in 1969, he was actively involved in publishing gospel, sacred and religious music. In the early 1960′s, two record labels were formed, Heartwarming and Impact. Served on the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene for twenty (20) years, Board of Trustees Trevecca Nazarene College, Minister of Music First Nazarene Church, Nashville, for twenty (20) years. One of the founders and first treasurer of the GMA. John T. Benson, Jr., was the father of John T. Benson, III.
