Space Core

Experimental/Psychedelic Heavy Metal a.k.a. "Space Metal" from Cleveland, Ohio. Formed in early 1990 by the union of ex-Destructor members Dave "Overkill", Pat "Rabid" and Matt "Flammable", with Screwtractor keyboardist Paul Resnik on keys, backing vocals and effects, and future Destructor bassist Eric Reineke. By 1992 however Matt and Eric had left the band, with Dave taking up the drums (as well as his previous position on lead vocals, guitar, keyboards and effects) and Pat handling the bass (as well as guitar and backing vocals). With this lineup they recorded from 1992 into 1993, releasing "Volume I" in 1993. During the "Volume I" sessions they also recorded almost a half hour of additional material, the songs "Ice Age", "New World, Another Dawn", "Approaching Planet X" and an outtake version of "Valley of the Kings", all of which have never been released. Many "Volume I" songs date back to bands first lineup in 1990, many having been played live at shows of the era before Matt and Eric left. "Lost in Time", "Jupiter 2", "Ice Age" and "Approaching Planet X" all are from 1990. "Approaching Planet X" was actually originally an introduction to the 13-minute song "Planet X?" Soon after they recruited ex-Mystik drummer Mike "M.L." Leodi and brought back Eric back on bass. In 1994 they recorded "Volume II", the 10-song, near-80-minute sequel to to their 1993 debut, but it ended up never being released. In the credits of all their releases as Space Core and as Nucleon, they credit their synth/effects as "space", separate from keyboards. For example on "Volume I" Dave Just and Paul Resnik both perform keyboards and space. On Nucleon's "Hyper Emitter" album Resnik, Leodi, and Troha all perform space, although Resnik is the only one who plays keyboard. In 1995 Dave Just left the band, and they changed names to Nucleon, with Paul Resnik taking over lead vocals. Soon after the release of their "SubAtomic" album Pat Rabid left the band as well and was replaced by ex-The Art of Choking/ex-Kringe guitarist Rich Troha.
