Born in Lumumbashi, Congo (RDC) his parents named him Shungu Omba. He was later nicknamed and called, Ngouma Lokito, (Power Of The Bass). Ngouma started to play the bass guitar in 1977, with a local group called "Ndjili" until 1980. In 1983, he was asked to join a local church band called "Minzoto Wele Wela", and played the bass guitar. With this local church band, Ngouma experienced his first European tour in 1984, and also toured the Motherland (Africa). Ngouma Lokito briefly played with the Choc Stars band and then joined with Bozi Boziana, and formed a group called "Anti-Choc". Ngouma and Bozi Boziana, had success everywhere they played, and went on a long tour around Africa and Europe. The big finale of his tour would end up in Paris, and France. This time he was given another nickname of "Professor". Ngouma's unconditional success later made him form his own band called, Soukous Stars. This gave Ngouma the opportunity to play with many celebrities in the music business. In 1990, Ngouma Lokito finally released "Leddy", his first album, produced by TJ.R. Production and distributed by Sonodisc. Two years later Ngouma released his second and third album, entitled "Waby", produced by T.J.R. Distribution Sonodisc, and "Talisman" by Sonodisc. The big success of this album took him on a long international tour throughout the United States, Latin America, Canada, Europe, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Mali and Senegal. Ngouma has played in more than 40 countries, and continues to perform extensively throughout the United States. Ngouma cannot count the amount of albums that he has played on, but he has been featured on big name albums of various artists like Koffi Olomide, Tshala Muana, Bozi Boziana, François Lougah, Madilu System, and many more.
