German percussionist (born December 9, 1880 in Roßlau [now part of Dessau-Roßlau], Germany — died June 22, 1940 in Berlin, Germany) Krüger served as first timpani player at the State Opera of Berlin and was a faculty member of the State University for Music (Staatlich akademische Hochschule für Musik) in Berlin from 1921 to his death in 1940. His posthumously published textbook "Lehrbuch für Pauken und Kleine Trommel" (1942) continues to be required study for every percussionist. Krüger recorded widely in the 1910s and 1920s, especially pieces that demonstrated his virtuosity on the xylophone. A particular hit of his was his version of F. W. Meacham's "American Patrol", which he recorded for Grammophon, Odeon, Phonycord and Syrena - Electro. Another piece that he recorded for more than one label was his own "Tell-Fantasie", inspired by Gioacchino Rossini's "William Tell Overture."
