Danish bassist, composer, but also educator at Syddansk Musikkonservatorium & Skuespillerskole, born on October 4, 1982 in Daugård, Vejle, Denmark. Andersson, with roots in Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Iceland, grew up in a musical family but never showed much interest in music until the age of 14 when his life was turned upside down after a fireworks accident that cost him his sight. After this, he would find his way into jazz first through Keith Jarrett and, later, the live recordings of pianist Brad Mehldau. Many more years later, Richard Andersson has gained great recognition for his work as a composer and bass player in the modern jazz field. He has released several albums as a bandleader with Danish and international musicians such as Óskar Guðjónsson, Rudi Mahall, Kasper Tranberg, Jerry Bergonzi, Ra-Kalam Bob Moses, Tony Malaby and Bill McHenry. Andersson can also be found in collaborations with musicians such as Jeff "Tain" Watts, Tomas Franck, Kresten Osgood, Henrik Walsdorff, Sigurður Flosason and others. His music education began at the Carl Nielsen Academy Of Music, Denmark (2003-2008), continued at the Manhattan School Of Music in New York (2008-2009), and at Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium, Copenhagen (2010-2014).
