US trumpeter. 1968 graduate of Horlick and former member of the Count Basie Big Band and the Maynard Ferguson Band, with which he recorded several albums. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he was lead trumpet and featured soloist with the award-winning University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dominic Spera. Johnson earned his master's degree at Indiana University School of Music.
