Axel Bertram

Visual artist from the German Democratic Republic. Born in Dresden, he grew up in the town of Freital, Saxony. After studies in Berlin-Weißensee, he worked as a freelance graphic designer. Since 1977, he was also a professor for typography and graphic design. He has been designing posters, books and journals (like 'Sybille' or the 'Wochenpost') and developing typograhy, as on the '20-Pfennig' - coin and several stamps for the GDR. He died on March 16, 2019 in Berlin, aged 82 years.
