Mary, Queen of Scots (8 December 1542, Linlithgow, Scotland — 8 February 1587, Northamptonshire, England), also known as Mary Stuart and Mary I of Scotland, was a reigning Queen of Scotland between 14 December 1542 and her forced abdication in July 1567. She escaped and spent several years in England, later again imprisoned and executed. Mary was a prolific poet and played lute and virginal.
