Gal (7)

Belgian visual artist also known as GAL who was born on 1940-08-03 in Oudergem (together with his twin brother Edgard). He started his career in 1960 and became most famous as a political cartoonist for Flemish weekly magazines De Nieuwe and Knack. He grew up in Overijse (where he commissioned a house by Renaat Braem) but moved to Brussels (Schaarbeek) when he became a teacher at the Saint Lucas School of Arts. He has received numerous awards during his career and has enjoyed several expositions, most notably in the visitor's centre of the Flemish Parliament in 2011 and in 2021 (the latter on the occasion of the Flemish Parliament's 50th birthday). He has published several books, most recently Al Gal (Stockmans 2021).
