Willie Hightower (2)

American jazz cornetist, trumpeter, and bandleader born October 23, 1889 in Nashville, Tennessee died December 1959 in Chicago Hightower first worked in New Orleans, leading the American Stars c. 1908-c. 1917. Moved to Chicago c. 1917, played with lesser known bands in the early 1920s, with Carroll Dickerson in 1925. Thereafter joined his wife Lottie Hightower's band Hightower's Night Hawks, recording with them in 1927. Worked with Dickerson again and with theater orchestras in 1930s. In 1933 a member of Andrew Hilaire's band; later in that decade ceased to work as a full-time musician.
