Fred Quintrell

Australian musician (violin & 'cello), conductor, bandleader & songwriter (b. Moonta, South Australia 1879 - d. Penrith, NSW 3 August 1963) Conducted for JCW c.1908-1912. Went to U.S. c.1916. Returned to Australia in 1924 to tour with Harry Lauder and then continued on world tour. In U.S. again in 1925 and worked with Victor Herbert. Continued to work between Australia and the U.S. during most of the 1920s. Conducting in Australia most of 1930s & 1940s (toured New Zealand with Gladys Moncrieff 1937/38). Wife was stage actress Nellie Strong (Vivien Arnold). Brother Will Quintrell. Composed a number of popular songs 1910-1920.
