Cedric West

British guitarist and trombonist, born December 9, 1918 in Rangoon, Burma. Started playing guitar in late 1930s in Burma. Following Japanese invasion of Burma in 1942 he was evacuated to India, where he played guitar and, later, trombone with Teddy Weatherford at the Grand Hotel in Calcutta (1942-1945). He went to England in 1947, led own bands and played and recorded with many others. From 1968 until retirement in 1984 he concentrated on radio and TV work.
