Raffaele Grimaldi

Raffaele Grimaldi is an italian pianist and composer. He grew up in Switzerland where he had his music’s first approach. An eclectic and versatile musician, he started to play piano when he was a child and received a classical education that led him to graduate in Piano and Composition at the Conservatory “G. Martucci” in Salerno, the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome and the IRCAM in Paris. Raffaele is the kind of musician who is always looking for new challenges and courageously try to explore different forms of musical expression and new musical fields, with a deep love for experimentation and curiosity. His music has a singularly and fascinating directness, rarely heard within the new music scene, which always contains an emotional core of striking intimacy and sensitivity with a pronounced openness towards different musical currents. Raffaele’s influences and piano playing encompasses a variety of styles, included the classical and contemporary music, jazz, free improvisation and instant composing, traditional music, and of course his own compositions. Raffaele has been a featured pianist and composer at many international festivals and he has travelled all around the world including Europe, U.S.A., Japan, Canada, Russia, Australia, Scandinavia. During his tours, he both performed by himself as soloists or with other musicians like part of orchestras with a worldwide reputation.
