American choral conductor, organist, and music educator (b. November 6, 1902 in Boston, Massachusetts - d. July 18, 1969 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA) A Harvard graduate (BA, 1924; MA, 1926), Woodworth became conductor of the Radcliffe Choral Society right after receiving his bachelor degree. He briefly left Harvard to study conducting with Sir Malcolm Sargent at the Royal College of Music in London from 1927 to 1928. From 1928 to 1932, he led the Pierian Sodality Orchestra of Harvard University. In 1933, he began conducting the Harvard Glee Club. In 1940 he was appointed organist and choirmaster for the Harvard University Chapel. He was made James Edward Ditson Professor of Music at Harvard in 1954, and even though he officially retired in 1954, he continued teaching until a day before his death in 1969.
