Yanna Pelser, born in Delft, The Netherlands, studied classical viola at the conservatory of Rotterdam with Gisella Bergman and at the Hochschule für Musik of Detmold with Diemut Poppen and Corinne Contardo. She received masterclasses from renowned violists/violinists such as Garth Knox, Hartmut Rohde, Hiro Kurosaki and Gordan Nikolic. Besides her orchestral experience (with conductors Yannick Nezet Seguin and Reinbert de Leeuw) she has experience with solo repertoire and chamber music. Together with Serge Meeusen, her pianist, she gives concerts and at the moment she is the violist of the Aleph String Quartet. Besides classical music, Yanna plays jazz-, pop- and worldmusic in several bands, for example Crescent Double Quartet, Lasse Passage, Beatnik Fandango, The Claxons and VDRSH. Furthermore free musical improvisation is her favorite occupation. Yanna attended several courses with violinist Thomas Lange, founder of the Resonance method for musicians. This applied musical physiology has an important role in Yanna’s way of playing music as well as in her viola/violin teaching.
