Carl was born in the mountain community of Princeton, W.V. He started playing guitar at 9 years old, and soon discovered Bluegrass and Old Time Music through local Fiddler’s Conventions. He became an accomplished guitarist, winning the prestigious Galax Fiddler’s Convention for the first time at age 17. He won many contests, and participated actively in those events until he left for Virginia Tech to pursue an Electrical Engineering degree. Carl is an accomplished songwriter, and has had several songs that have done well on the charts. He has performed with many nationally recognized acts including New Vintage, Kevin WIlliamson, James Monroe, Dale Ann Bradley, Clarence Kelly, Dave Evans, and as mandolinist and vocalist with Dave Adkins. He has recorded several solo projects of his own songs over the years and continues to perform. He lives in Brentwood, Tennessee.
