Emil Štolc

Czech composer (b. October 28, 1888 in Chorusice, Bohemia – d. July 1, 1940 in Nový Vestec, Bohemia) The son of a music teacher and band leader, Štolc played the flugelhorn (taught by his father) and the flute, which he studied at the Prague conservatory. Between 1905-1908, he served as a flutist with the 21st Infantry Regiment in Kutná Hora (Kuttenberg). In 1912, he succeeded his father as director of a brass band that the latter had founded in Brandýs nad Labem (Brandeis an der Elbe). That same year, he founded a music publishing house in Prague-Smíchov. In 1922, he became the conductor of the Sokol band in Smíchov. In addition, he led the band of the Národní Garda (National Guard) Nr. 2 in Prague until 1933. Between 1922 and 1935, he also published a musical journal. Štolc published more than 1,000 compositions.
