Rob van den Broeck was a Dutch modern jazz pianist and a painter, born 1 December 1940 in Hilversum, Netherlands. He learned the piano already as a child. From 1957 to 1962, he studied graphics at the Rietveld-Akademie in Amsterdam, and somewhat later at the Conservatorium in Hilversum. From 1961 he belonged to the Dick Vennik trio. Later, he formed a trio with Henny Vonk and Tony Vos, and from the mid-60s, they played music by the likes of Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster. In the 1990s, he led the loose European Jazz Ensemble with - among many others - Gerd Dudek, with whom he also had a smaller ensemble, and with Ali Haurand they released After All in 1991. Different combos with Tony Levin or Tony Oxley followed, and also with The Metropole Orkest . From 1980 to 2000, he taught at the Hochschule der Künste (College of Art) in Arnhem, mainly the piano. He also had several art exibitions during these years. He died April 30, 2012 in Enter, near Twente in Netherlands.
