Fred Herzog

German-born Canadian photographer, moving to Canada at the age of 21 and Vancouver when he was 22. Born: 21st September 1930 Bad Friedrichshall near Stuttgart, Germany Died: 9th September 2019 Vancouver, Canada Fred Herzog was known for his photographs of working class people and their connections to the city around them in Vancouver, British Columbia. Herzog was one of the pioneers of artistic color photography, for which he was belatedly acknowledged, at the age of 76, when he was given his first major exhibition in 2007 at the Vancouver Art Gallery. He gained the name Fred while working as a seaman for Union Steamships.
