German-Danish composer, arranger, conductor, pianist and saxophonist. Born September 18th, 1901 in Berlin, Germany. Died May 13th, 1965 in Copenhagen, Denmark. An opera conductor and show orchestra leader since 1924, he took up writing music for German films in 1929. Moving to Denmark in 1933, he composed music for many Danish films, theater and radio, as well as several solo and orchestra works. Deported with his family, he arrived in Terezín on 6 October 1943, where he conducted an orchestra for the sound recordings made for the soundtrack of the Nazi propaganda film "Theresienstadt" a.k.a. "The Führer Gives a Town to the Jews", directed by Kurt Gerron. He survived the camp, returning to Denmark after liberation.
