Mikhail Zalmanovich Estrin (1947 - July 12, 2011) - Russian violinist, music teacher and conductor. Soloist of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra / Заслуженный коллектив России Академический симфонический оркестр Санкт-Петербургской филармонии (ЗКР АСО), professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1996). In 1971, Mikhail Estrin, having graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory in the class of Mikhail Vayman / Михаил Вайман, began working at the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra / Академический симфонический оркестр Ленинградской филармонии. For 18 years he worked in this orchestra under the direction of Evgeny Mravinsky. In 1989, after the appointment of Yuri Temirkanov as chief conductor of the orchestra, Estrin became soloist-accompanist of the second violins. Mikhail Estrin taught at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and held the title of professor. He was also chief conductor and artistic director of the Conservatory Chamber Orchestra. In 1996 he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In 1999, Mikhail Estrin created a chamber orchestra of students and graduate students on the basis of St. Petersburg State Conservatory, which after his death became known as the Concert Chamber Orchestra of M.Z. Estrin, Dmitry Koryavko / Дмитрий Корявко, one of the best students of M. Estrin, became the chief conductor.
