David L. Stewart Producer & Dj David L. Stewart, founder, and head of the label Turn, not only loves art, design and music but shows it in the various projects he has with customers as well as on the label itself. David grew up in the Chicago land area, and now resides in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. While growing up in the Midwest during the 90s, David was exposed to a range of styles, from electronic music to Alternative music, from Metal to Hip-hop/Rap from the West and East coasts. Mr Stewart can’t recall when he fell in love with electronic music. However, he says it may be a mixture of hearing his parents' music and sneaking late-night headphone sessions of the B96 Hotmixes during the late ’80s and early ’90s. He adds it could also be the amount of repetitive video game music he heard while playing in the dark. At age 16, he bought his first instrument with his hard-earned cash, a bass guitar and began to play daily. He created a garage rock band with school friends. While the group was grungier and alternative the young David looked into other aspects of music. He favoured bands like Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Stabbing Westward as well as electronic bands such as Underworld, and The Prodigy. He also had an ear for Bangin/Acid House Music that came from the radios and parties in the city. Eventually, David sold that bass for the Roland MC303 and a sampler. After high school in 1998, David joined the United States Army. His military duty station was about a 15-minute drive to Frankfurt am Main, Germany. There he found himself newer music. He recalls the music was like Chicago Acid House, Progressive Rock and Industrial whipped in a blender. It was the perfect sound to lure him deep into Techno and bring his first Dj gigs in 1999-2000. After David’s honourable discharge from the Army in 2001, he decided to stay in Germany to continue making electronic music. Mr Stewart has landed plenty of gigs in the local electronic music scene, with highlights being the legendary U60311, Space Place/Tanz House West, and the Spitz Eisenach. He has also played multiple radio shows like Digital Imported, RadioX and Deepsound London FM. David L. Stewart’s music career has been all but an easy ride. From failed projects to bad management to changes in life, David has managed to continue making his sound heard by the masses with multiple releases under his belt and more to come. David's momentum is scaling up in electronic music scene as he continues to break further ground with each release. His innovative sound is known to have a minimalist edge added with a batch of ambience and electronic wizardry. When listening, one will feel as if they were put into the outer limits of consciousness as much as into the warm depths of their inner selves while he uses effects and gadgets to manipulate the sound to his liking. Stewart often becomes a narrator as he creates a world before the listener. This can be heard in all three current projects; Bytes Touch Us, Am Transistor and the recordings under his name David L.
