One of the pre-eminent American travel writers. Born May 17, 1919 in New York City, New York Died October 26, 1991 Manhatten, New York (age of 72). He was also a book author of eleven books, syndicated columnist, journalist, and editor. He often traveled over a thousand miles a year, writing articles about the many places he visited, including at the time, many remote areas. His articles appeared in many newspapers and magazines. He joined the Saturday Review in the late 1940s, and remained there for more than 30 years. He also founded travel sections for Sports Illustrated and McCall's. He won numerous accolades for his travel writing, including an award from the Overseas Press Club for his coverage of a military counter-coup in Indonesia in 1965. He coined the term "jet lag", which he first used in 1966 in an L.A. Times article.
