German blues musician, born on January 29, 1949 in Munich, died on March 27, 2007 in Tutzing, Germany. In 1961, the year the wall in Berlin was built finally separating the western and the eastern parts of Germany, blues-musician Diestelmann crossed the iron curtain from the west to the east and relocated in the GDR, where he recorded two LPs for the label Label Amiga. In 1982 Distelmann cooperated with british blues legend Alexis Korner on the occasion of "Bratislavska Lyra". As years went by he faced more and more problems with the communist regime of the GDR, e.g.: radio play prohibition, a general ban from performing at live events. Unable to pursue his profession as artist and musician Diestelmann finally left the GDR and returned to West Germany in 1985.
