She performed and provided vocals for such artists as Prince, Santana and Larry Graham, was a member of D'Angelo's band The Soultronics, performed and toured with Roy Hargrove (she is featured vocalist and co-writer of "How I Know"), performed and recorded with Martin Luther (Rebel Soul Music) and Anthony Hamilton. Shelby J. joined Prince's band the NPG late '06/early '07. Her own band is Blackgypsy.
