Australian singer, pianist & songwriter (b. Casino, NSW 189 Nov., 1895 - d. Sydney 28 Aug., 1948) Moved to Sydney in 1905 and studied music. Joined the All Blacks vaudeville troupe in 1911, and toured Australia for two years. Was in AIF 1915 and sent to the Middle East & France. After WWI he was in England for a short time but returned to Australia and became a manager at the music publishers Allan & Alberts. Began songwriting around this time. Made test recordings for World Record in Melbourne 1925. Commenced long recording career with Columbia in Sydney 1926 including many of his own compositions. Worked on vaudeville circuit (1926-1928). Commentator for Fox Movietone newsreels in 1931. Teamed up with Jack Davey to form duo The Two Jacks (first billed as "Daffy & Dilly") in 1936. During WWII was at Radio 2UE in Sydney.
