Born 1925, Irma Gwynn was a gospel singer and original member of Robert Anderson And His Gospel Caravan before the group was reformed as The Caravans (2). Her contralto vocals can be heard on the groups early recordings between 1949 and 1951. In 1952, Gwynn left the group. Gwynn was a member with Chicago’s famed Cyril Martinie under the leadership of Rev. Clarence H. Cobbs and was often accompanied accompanied by First Church’s professor of music, Ralph H. Goodpasteur. She was a featured soloist with the First Church Of Deliverance Choir on Heilbut’s All God’s Sons and Daughters album on Spirit Feel. She also appeared as a soloist on several other albums including Chicago Gospel Pionners on Spirit Feel Records and Soul of Chicago on Shanachie Entertainment Records. Irma Gwynn died on April 23, 2006.
