He worked with Big Bill Broonzy (blues), Mezz Mezzrow, Bill Coleman, Dicky Wells, and Buck Clayton, and in his own groups, featuring many visiting American jazz stars, such as Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Milt Buckner, Wallace Davenport, Arnett Cobb, and Wild Bill Davis.
