The Colonials The Group originally consisted of six young men whose ages from 17 to 24 years, Members: Dave Brannigan, John Fitzgerald, Tony Lavin, Richard Doctors, Tony Hunt, Chris Wendt. John Fitzgerald and Tony Lavin are Irish the other four members of the group are Australian The type of clothes worn by the group are as close as possible as to those generally worn around the eighteen eighties. i.e. vest shirt and scarf, moleskin trousers and riding boots. The three lead singers in the group also had full beards and slightly longer than usual hair which is also traditional to that period. Instruments played by The Colonials include; Steel and nylon guitars, tenor and five string banjos, banjo-mandolin, mandolin, tin whistles, violin, concertina, mouth organ, spoons, bones, lager phone, and bush bass. The specialize in performing Traditional Australian folk songs and Irish and Scottish instrumentals. They had '71 a repertoire of approx 250 songs and tunes which is constantly being added up. Since 1.1.1971 the group has appeared on TV fifty three times. Channel 9 Channel 7 and Channel 2 They also appeared on French national television, Radio Ireland and local radio stations, They have been resident groups of Eureka Stockade Tavern (Melbourne) for six months and also appeared at a number of concerts, night clubs and film premiers.
