Taken from The Band Box (Joe Brown) December 25, 1992-- "Born in 1992, the Northern Virginia melodic rock quartet Islander is celebrating a very good year with a Christmas party this Friday at the Bayou, headlining a bill that also includes T-Zin and Sheer Kahn. "It was a great year," says Jeff Darby, who plays guitar and keyboards. "We put out our first self-produced tape on our own label, DNA, and it was received very well by all our fans and the local press; the clubs were good to us; and we signed a management deal, which was one of the highlights of the whole year. {Our manager's} pointing us in a real direction." The guys in the band -- Darby, his brother Jerry Darby (drums), Tom Silis (bass) and Max Axx (lead vocals and guitar) -- grew up together in the Mount Vernon area. Darby describes Islander's sound as "very danceable and heavy on the harmonies." "After the Christmas show we're going back to the studio through January," Darby says. "So in the beginning of the year we'll come out with our new album, which is already written. We're hoping '93 will be an even happier new year."
