Tony Arena, aka "Anonymous Boy" and "Crumboy" is a visual artist, singer, songwriter, and musician. He often contributes artwork for his various band's releases. In 1985, was invited to join the band Horror Planet as a backup-vocalist and percussionist and appears on the band's sole EP, Cow Pies From Outer Space under the alias of "Crumboy." Horror Planet included Ludichrist guitarist Glen Cummings. Following the break-up of the original Horror Planet in 1987, he formed Bozo Shmo, again as "Crumboy" with two of the former Horror Planet members Dave (Fonk) and Rick (Hambone Legbone) along with four female vocalists, including, briefly, Alicia Morgan of 13. After Bozo Shmo broke up in 1989, Dave and Rick briefly re-joined a reformed Horror Planet while Tony did activist work as a member of ACT UP, and concentrated on visual arts through most of the 1990s. He contributed some visual artwork to some releases for Hambone Legbone's band the Lone Wolves during this period when Tony wasn't making music. At the beginning of the 2000s he returned to music, mainly as an autoharp player and vocalist, first with an unrecorded band called The Jabs which featured the noted filmmaker Sarah Jacobson on vocals and guitar. Next with a group called The Spines, featuring bassist and vocalist Bunny Hirsch, and drummer Rich Kabot. After the break-up of The Spines, Tony and the drummer Rich formed Pepper Kings, again with Hambone Legbone, and for a time Ben on keyboards and guitar, along with guitarists Nick Irons, and Ted Kersten. Ben and Ted had previously been in the band Imaginary Icons. Hambone then joined Ben in the Fun Time Objects and was replaced by Leesa on bass. Tony currently also works with Anne Lepore of The Machine Shop as a visual artist, providing images and designs for t-shirts, badges, stickers, and postcards.
